Square Enix has officially confirmed that Bone Village will be entirely absent as an explorable location from the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed the decision during a recent interview with RPG Site, clarifying that the classic excavation site has been left on the cutting room floor for this final chapter of the remake trilogy.
In the original 1997 PlayStation release, Bone Village served as a mandatory pit stop where players engaged in a digging minigame to unearth the Lunar Harp, a key item required to enter the Forgotten Capital. However, the developers chose to detach this progression barrier from the minigame in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, streamlining the narrative shift into Chapter 14. Because the progression mechanics have evolved, the physical location no longer serves a critical narrative purpose in the upcoming finale.
Despite the omission of Bone Village, the final installment will feature several other iconic locations from the original world map. Hamaguchi confirmed that major regions such as Wutai, Mideel, and Rocket Town are slated to appear, while areas like Northwood and the Temple of the Ancients will be revisited. The team is also implementing adjustments to the popular Queen’s Blood card game based on player feedback gathered since the launch of Rebirth.
The narrative structure of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will place heavy emphasis on the emergence of the Weapons, the Planet’s ultimate defensive biological entities. Players can expect significant boss encounters against these threats, with Hamaguchi explicitly confirming that the notorious Ruby Weapon will appear as a major boss battle. While the director remained tight-lipped regarding the exact mechanics of the encounter, he noted that the battle design aims to serve as a proper homage to the grueling, desert-based optional fight that veterans remember.
