Dragon's Dogma 2 Sees Major Player Drop on Steam

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sees Major Player Drop on Steam

Just three weeks post-launch, Dragon’s Dogma 2 achieved the status of Capcom’s biggest Steam launch ever with over 2.5 million copies sold in less than two weeks. Despite its initial success, the game has struggled to maintain player interest, losing approximately 80% of its players since reaching peak numbers.

Released with several performance issues on PC, these factors are likely contributing to the rapid decline in player counts. Current active players on Steam are around 48K, a significant drop from the over 228K at its peak. This count, however, remains impressive but pales in comparison to its initial figures.

While it’s common for single-player games to lose players over time, Capcom’s release was expected to perform better. Past top games managed to retain a higher number of players for longer periods. Even last week, Dragon’s Dogma 2 still had around 75K concurrent players, but those numbers have since halved, with further decreases expected as the game approaches its one-month anniversary.

The decline mirrors other famous games that faced similar fates, like Palworld and Hogwarts Legacy. However, it falls short of the sustained interest seen in games like Baldur’s Gate 3.

Capcom may boost future player numbers with potential DLC and game discounts. Despite the drop, Dragon’s Dogma 2 continues to hold a significant place in this year’s gaming landscape.
