When Microsoft announced it would acquire Activision Blizzard, many people (including Sony) feared that Call of Duty would become an Xbox-exclusive franchise. Microsoft however still plans for COD to stay on PlayStation for as long as possible.
As reported by Eurogamer, Xbox Head Phil Spencer mentioned in an interview with the Same Brain podcast that Call of Duty on PlayStation is here to stay. You can read his comments on the matter below.
“We’re not taking Call of Duty from PlayStation… That’s not our intent. Our intent is not to do that and as long as there’s a PlayStation out there to ship to, our intent is that we’ll continue to ship Call of Duty on PlayStation – similar to what we’ve done with Minecraft since we owned that.
“We’ve expanded the places where people can play Minecraft, we haven’t reduced the places. And it’s been good, it’s been good for the Minecraft community – in my opinion – and we want to do the same when we think where Call of Duty can go over the years.”
As he already mentioned, Microsoft owns Minecraft but the game is still available on platforms outside of the Xbox family of consoles. Hopefully COD is here to stay on other platforms as it’s too popular to become an Xbox-exclusive franchise.
