For the first time in the history of the franchise, the upcoming GTA 6 will feature a relationship dynamics between it’s protagonist duo–Jason and Lucia which can be taken forward in multiple ways based on your preference. But it seems building up their relationship can be extremely time consuming and can even cause dissent in many actual real life relationships as on TikTok, a variety of partners and spouses have objected to the relationship mechanics of GTA 6.
“In absolutely no human way is my fiancé playing GTA 6,” said one TikToker. “You literally have to maintain a relationship with a girl [in] the video game and text her, and she’ll get mad if you don’t text her back. You have to take her on dates and you can have [sex] with her. […] Don’t let your boyfriend or fiancé or husband play GTA 6.”
Several other TikTok creators are also of the opinion that playing the game, especially when building the relationship segment, is akin to real-life cheating among couples.
However, developer Rockstar has made it absolutely clear that you can easily skip this part of GTA 6 if you simply don’t want to, so there’s that. During an exclusive interview with IGN, Rockstar North co-studio head, Rob Nelson has described how the in-game relationship works in detail:
“When you bring them together, it feels like you’re a steward of their relationship, and you feel protective of them as a unit,” he said. “But this is something we did not know when we started, and it really had to be something we felt our way through. But I will say that whether you’re getting in trouble, or you’re running from the cops, or getting in a car, or waiting for the other one — playing as them together feels very cool. It feels like you’re taking care of them, if that’s something you’re into.”
GTA 6 is currently slated to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
