No Yosuke Romance in Persona 4 Revival, Atlus Producer Confirms

Atlus producer Kazuhisa Wada has confirmed that the upcoming remake Persona 4 Revival will not feature a romance option for Yosuke Hanamura, officially putting an end to years of fan speculation. Speaking in an interview at Gamescom, Wada addressed the long-standing community request, explaining that adding a male romance route would logically require creating similar options for the rest of the male cast. The development team ultimately decided against it, citing the massive workload required to design three entire romance paths alongside the game’s other additions.

The demand for a Yosuke romance stems from unused audio files discovered within the original Persona 4 game files, which hinted that Atlus had initially considered the option before cutting it during development. Ever since those files surfaced, fans have called for the cut content to be fully realized. The community even took matters into their own hands on PC, creating fan mods for Persona 4 Golden to restore the cut relationship.

The situation mirrors the launch of Persona 3 Reload, where Atlus faced community criticism for omitting the female protagonist originally introduced in Persona 3 Portable. In that instance, Wada offered a similar explanation, noting that the resources needed to recreate the game around a second main character were simply too high. Unsurprisingly, modders eventually stepped in to build custom cutscenes and models to bring that option to life anyway, a trend that may very well repeat itself when Persona 4 Revival arrives on modern hardware.

Outside of the romance debate, Persona 4 Revival is set to introduce several modern improvements to the 2008 classic, borrowing popular features from Persona 5 and Persona 3 Reload. Players can look forward to exterior minimaps, Social Link progress updates via text messages, and a new combat mechanic called “Prime Time” that lets characters execute abilities without spending health or spirit points. Persona 4 Revival is currently scheduled to launch on February 18, 2027.
