Despite Negative Reviews, Marvel’s Wolverine Has Reportedly Sold 1.9 Million Copies in Launch Week

It seems despite it’s rather mixed critical reception, Marvel’s Wolverine has sold exceptionally well so far as according to Alinea Analytics, Insomniac’s latest superhero action adventure title has sold around 1.9 million units so far, although Sony hasn’t revealed any official sales figures yet. Head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics, Rhys Elliot, wrote on his official X/Twitter account that Marvel’s Wolverine has generated about $130 million in revenue so far, which is definitely promising in more ways than one, also, an estimated 22.9% of the revenue has come solely from the sale of physical copies for the game.

But more importantly, Marvel’s Wolverine is quickly shaping up to be “the top-performing new PlayStation Studios game on PS5 this year”, surpassing all other Playstation titles this year by a healthy margin. In the same vein, Wolverine has also already beat the lifetime sales figures of Death Stranding 2: “Wolverine’s early success means it just passed Death Stranding 2‘s lifetime PS5 copies sold and revenues ($129M and 1.8M copies).”

However, Elliot has also stated that despite the game doing well enough, one shouldn’t expect Spider-Man numbers from Wolverine, for obvious reasons:

“So yes, Wolverine has sold well, but its commercial long tail is limited by its mixed media and streamer reception. Unlike Spider-Man, which reviewed insanely well and has stayed evergreen for years, this one’s tail will be shorter and lumpier, but still there.”

He also made some forecast for the game moving forward:

“But make no mistake, Wolverine will keep moving. The backlash was fast and hard, but that discourse will sail clean over the heads of the millions of more passive, mainstream players who make up the bulk of this audience. Those folks’ll buy Wolverine for the brand, get it for Christmas, and never once open Reddit to find out they were supposed to be angry.”

Marvel’s Wolverine is available in two different editions–the Standard edition of the game will cost you $69.99 while the Digital Deluxe version sports a price tag of $79.99. There’s no mention of a collector’s edition that’s geared towards enthusiasts so if you were hoping for physical collectibles like statues and maybe action figures, looks like there won’t be any of that.
