Developer Insomniac has just released an update to effectively nerf the glaring Scent Trails in Marvel’s Wolverine that lets him zero in on other characters in the game, which has also been a major source of backlash among players, accusing the game of rather excessive and unnecessary hand holding that can really get in the flow of the experience.
And ahead of Wolverine’s release, Insomniac’s director of community and marketing, James Stevenson, clarified on his social media page that the Scent Trail ability is actually true-to-form for Logan’s heightened mutant senses from the comics so in that sense (pun intended), the in-game ability actually fits like a glove for it’s titular character.
“The scent trail isn’t always on.
It represents Logan’s canon mutant super senses and elite tracking ability.
It only is there when he’s tracking a specific scent / sound (a person, whisky, or another clue scent) – story/mission moments or when he catches whiff of a collectible.”
However, in the newly released patch notes, the hotfix “adjusts the presentation of the Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators, including reduced opacity to make these visuals less intense.”
So in a nutshell, the glaring Sense Trail will feel a bit less obvious and prominent on your screen, also, the devs have stated that they’re currently exploring ways for adding toggleable options in a future update for Wolverine, which can allow you to completely turn the trail off.
Check out the full patch notes of the new hotfix:
- This hotfix addresses some common crashes experienced by a small percentage of players since launch.
- Additionally, this hotfix adjusts the presentation of the Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators, including reduced opacity to make these visuals less intense.
- Our team continues to evaluate ways to further improve Senses in the game, including exploring toggleable options for a future update.
Marvel’s Wolverine is available in two different editions–the Standard edition of the game will cost you $69.99 while the Digital Deluxe version sports a price tag of $79.99. There’s no mention of a collector’s edition that’s geared towards enthusiasts so if you were hoping for physical collectibles like statues and maybe action figures, looks like there won’t be any of that.
