theHunter Classic is dying, and there seems to be nothing we can do to prevent this from happening. The only thing we can do is keep track of all the PC and console games that die and find a way to preserve them via different means. Unless we stand ground and fight alongside Stop Killing Games we will never reach the goal to keep these games alive. More people need to be aware about what means for games to still remain alive, because if a 1990s piece of software can still be played online surely a 2020s game can too, the tech didn’t disappear, it never did.
theHunter Classic is closing
theHunter Classic was a very important game that has been running for almost two decades, this was also a huge game that a ton of people spent money on. There is a new version of the game, but the fact that they decided to kill the original one despite being online for so long shows that they just want to force the hand of people into spending money in the new one. It is very important that we become aware of the injustices that this brings, so many good moments will basically disappear forever with no way to recover them.
Hopefully some sort of private fan server exists to keep this alive, but that means players would have to already know how to disassemble the game to get things right and host it themselves. If the company decides to still pursue legal action after the game dies in November, it will be a concession that the game still matters and it shouldn’t have been taken down for any reason. This is greed we are talking about, and many publishers nowadays tend to want every single penny you carry with you.
