Square Enix has revealed the Bastion as the newest Tank job coming to Final Fantasy 14 in its upcoming Evercold expansion, alongside an eight-player raid crossover developed in partnership with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake team. Producer and director Naoki Yoshida announced the details on stage at the 2026 Berlin FanFest, appearing in full Bastion cosplay to demonstrate the job’s signature “Skyltborg” gun-shields, which combine close-range defense with mid-range projectile attacks. The addition brings the MMORPG’s Tank role roster to five when the expansion launches in January 2027.
The headline raid series, titled “Beyond the Lifestream,” marks a direct collaboration with the team behind the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. Scheduled to roll out its initial tier in early 2027 prior to the release of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the raid content will feature boss encounters and narrative elements designed jointly by both development studios. Additional tiers for the raid series are planned to launch progressively across the expansion’s patch cycle through 2028.
Beyond high-end combat encounters, the partnership extends into casual side content within the Manderville Gold Saucer. Beginning October 28, players can access “Keybound Brawler,” a new typing mini-game adapted from the Gold Saucer activities seen in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Yoshida also confirmed that Evercold’s campaign will take players to the Fourth Reflection, featuring Norse-mythology-inspired zones where players can choose their starting progression route.
Square Enix concluded the presentation with immediate platform updates, confirming that the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Final Fantasy 14 will launch on August 4. The release requires 119 GB of storage space and will offer a free access period for approximately one month to evaluate server stability before requiring standard purchase and subscription fees.
