In yesterday’s State of Play, we also witnessed a brand new trailer for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis which is a “reimagining” or a current-gen remake of the original 1996 game and will be out for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S next year. Built in the Unreal Engine 5, the upcoming title features Lara Croft’s first adventure with plenty of tense platforming, high stakes chase sequences, puzzle solving which involves light beams and various death traps and lastly, dinosaurs. Check out the full trailer below:
The trailer also briefly outlines the story of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis while showcasing several gameplay sections like the puzzle platforming, an underwater segment, some brief combat situations where the protagonist makes a stealth-but-not-silent takedown and much more.
A grappling hook-like tool is also noticeable in several parts of the trailer which allows Lara to grapple onto any suitable part of the terrain and other environmental sections, which is a nice addition in the overall gameplay that ensures the player always have options to navigate the environment at every moment. This can also make the exploration parts, which is likely what you’ll be doing the most in the upcoming game, feel far much more empowering than it’s been in the original as you won’t have to worry about dying from one wrong move or likewise, which has been the case in many platforming titles of the past.
However, what shines the most in the new trailer is the visuals which imbues the ancient landscapes, the underground ruins and everything else that’s on screen with realism, detail and aliveness. The technical advancements that’s been brought to Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis by Unreal 5 makes revisiting and replaying the decade old title all the more worthwhile and exciting when it launches next year.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is confirmed to be released on February 12, 2027 in three different editions and a 48-hour early access pre-order bonus.
