There is many mods for Last of Us Part 2, and none profit from using Sony‘s IP, however this recent multiplayer mod had pay walling so there was legal ground to get the big company in action and strike it down. Honestly, I’m fine with that, getting money off the IP that belongs to other people is pretty much stealing. However, we have to recognize the fact that the big corporations themselves do this to us, and even take our ideas to feed them to their AI Algorithms. We live in a world where corporations seem to be ruling with an iron fist.
Last of Us Part 2 mod under fire
The people who supported this with money have been practically scammed because it does not even exist in the first place. Doing mods is very risky, but profiting from them literally sets a tombstone with your name and the project’s name too, so its important not to think about profiting from these activities. Donations that are optional are fine, at the very least when it comes to my moral compass, but pay walling is a horrid thing to do when you have stolen content. Alas, nobody really seems to care much about ownership these days.
Last of Us Part 2 is a huge game and it was quite controversial back then, but people who are new to games seemed to enjoy it and jumped into it right away. I personally don’t vibe much with games of this caliber and yearn for more simple looking yet complicated games under the hood. The ability to play this as a multiplayer game would have been a neat mod provided they didn’t paywall it, we might never see this happen sadly. Hopefully someone grabs the code for it to make their own free version.
