Blizzard Entertainment unveiled the complete ability kit and gameplay perks for Doctrine, the latest Support Hero arriving in Overwatch. Introduced during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony in a new gameplay reveal trailer, the vampiric character marks the game’s 54th playable hero and the ninth addition to the roster this year. Hailing from Zimbabwe’s Shona tribe, Tamuka Yeukai—known in-game as Doctrine—is chronologically 77 years old, though his supernatural condition grants him the physical prowess of a man in his prime. Narrative lore reveals that Doomfist’s splinter faction recently liberated him from an Icelandic prison facility, re-establishing a key alliance within Talon’s ranks.
In combat, Doctrine falls under the Survivor Support subrole, giving him passive health regeneration whenever he executes a movement ability. His primary weapon, the Eternal Scepter, functions at medium range to deliver offensive damage to enemies while simultaneously mending injured allies. His core kit consists of Infuse, Shrouded Momentum, and Invigorating Drones. Shrouded Momentum permits a rapid horizontal dash with incoming damage reduction, which upgrades to free-flight capability when empowered by Infuse. Meanwhile, Invigorating Drones grant targeted allies increased healing and attack speed. When Infused, these drones redirect those speed and healing boosts back to Doctrine himself.
Doctrine’s ultimate ability, Deliverance, releases a lethal swarm of bat-shaped drones across the battlefield. The swarm simultaneously bestows temporary overhealth onto teammates while reducing the maximum health pool of opposing players, creating immediate opportunities for high-damage ultimate combinations alongside heroes like Reaper or Doomfist. Players can further customize his performance through minor perks that enhance base healing values, or major perks that trade his own maximum health for stronger healing output.
A limited-time Hero Trial for Doctrine remains open until September 14, giving players an early test period ahead of his official launch alongside Season 5 on October 6. The upcoming season will also introduce the Watchpoint: Grímsvötn escort map and rework both Sombra and Roadhog into the Support and Tank roles, respectively. Players logging in before Season 4 concludes can additionally claim a Mythic Voucher redeemable for select legacy hero skins.
