Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo officially announced Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember during the recent Xbox Games Showcase. The upcoming sequel will follow up on 2023’s action-RPG Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, returning players to a dark fantasy interpretation of second-century China during the chaotic late Eastern Han period. The title is scheduled to launch in early 2027 across multiple platforms, including PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
The announcement trailer positions the sequel around a “nameless champion” rising like a phoenix from the fires of war. Players will once again master intricate Chinese martial arts to battle a combination of rival warlords and supernatural demonic forces. To help players prepare for the new narrative, Microsoft and Koei Tecmo confirmed that the original Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be reintroduced to the Xbox Game Pass library ahead of the sequel’s launch.
The original 2023 release garnered generally positive reviews for its high-tempo deflection mechanics, intricate boss designs, and memorable score, drawing heavy gameplay comparisons to Team Ninja’s previous Nioh series. While the initial PC port suffered from optimization issues and some players criticized the linear structure of its levels, the core combat loop maintained a dedicated following. The developers look to build upon that mechanical foundation while expanding the scope of the Three Kingdoms setting.
Wings of Ember joins a crowded slate of heavy-hitting titles showcased for the upcoming year. Alongside the announcement, the presentation confirmed day-one availability for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, making it one of 17 titles secured for the subscription service. The title will launch alongside other highly anticipated projects in the genre, positioning Team Ninja’s latest historical epic as a major anchor for early 2027.
