Hooded Horse CEO says something very true, if you ignore some factors, Steam and PC gaming spaces are indeed helping indie games thrive. However, the definition of indie game has gotten quite muddied later, some people call things like Clair Obscur Expedition 33 indie, and in reality that isn’t the case. Some small indies aren’t actually popping up in Steam’s algorithm, and in fact some slop does pop up more than those. There is a discoverability issue, but smaller companies do indeed take more screen autonomy than the bigger ones. Thankfully many other places exist in the PC space to publish your games.
Hooded Horse is somewhat right
Perhaps they seem themselves as indie developers, and what they really are is double A developers, but they are indeed being discovered in the platform thanks to the algorithm. And honestly, a company that has a hard stance against AI should be rewarded that way, Hooded Horse stated that they will only care about publishing human effort. This makes them a publishing studio that is worth looking at, and they focus in a very interesting niche, those being strategy games with tons of systems upon them. I wanna see what other games they will help bring to life with their support.
There is a vast sea of games out there, and unfortunately time is quite finite, the fact that AI slop has tried to displace us from our hobby is something horrendous too, because now we spend more time looking for stuff that is made by people. Thankfully, based on many things happening with the industry, it seems that we might head for the light that is at the end of the tunnel, I still don’t wanna give up on the whole thing. There is a ton of games to try, and some might even become your favorite ones.
