NintendoThe long-rumored remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has finally been confirmed by Nintendo, and eagle-eyed fans have already spotted a significant aesthetic shift in Link’s classic arsenal. Following a brief teaser trailer showcased during the summer Nintendo Direct, close inspection of the game’s official title card reveals that both the Hylian Shield and the Master Sword have been redesigned to align with modern entries in the franchise.
Most notably, the classic Hylian Shield has traded its original Nintendo 64 look for the ornate design first established in Skyward Sword and later utilized in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The updated crest features a smaller Triforce, a repositioned bird emblem, and a more detailed silver border. Significantly, Nintendo has removed the notorious “fourth triangle” located at the base of the original shield—a texture detail that famously fueled decades of fan speculation regarding a secret fourth piece of the Triforce.
The legendary Master Sword has received a parallel visual update. The golden ornamentation, which previously sat just beneath the hilt in the 1998 original, has been integrated directly onto the guard. Additionally, the weapon’s grip now features the cross-hatched leather wrapping characteristic of Link’s contemporary adventures. This marks the first time these specific items have seen a major structural redesign within Ocarina of Time, as the 2011 Nintendo 3DS remaster preserved the original low-polygon geometry and layout.
While some purists have expressed mixed reactions over the departure from the nostalgic 1998 assets, the adjustments strongly suggest Nintendo is aiming for visual continuity across the unified Zelda timeline. With a confirmed 2026 release window, the project is expected to launch within the next six months. It remains to be seen whether this modern art direction extends to broader gameplay additions, or if the remake will strictly honor the mechanical foundation of the landmark adventure.
