Playground Games has officially confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 has reached “gold” status, signaling that primary development is complete and the master build is ready for mass production. This milestone moves the highly anticipated racing title into the manufacturing phase, with discs being pressed and digital storefronts finalized ahead of its global release on May 19. For fans who have spent years speculating on the franchise’s next destination, the news marks the end of a long development cycle and the beginning of the final countdown to the festival’s debut in Japan.
The technical requirements for the new entry reflect the massive scale of its open-world environment. Players on Xbox Series X will need to clear 135 GB of storage space, while Series S users require 130 GB. The PC version is even more demanding, necessitating a 160 GB download and a mandatory SSD to handle the game’s high-fidelity assets. While Xbox and PC players can begin preloading the game immediately via the Xbox app, Steam users are expected to receive preload access shortly.
Beyond the technical hurdles, Playground Games is leaning heavily into player rewards and social features to maintain the series’ momentum. The developer recently detailed “Horizon Play,” a revamped multiplayer suite designed to blend classic competitive racing with new cooperative modes. Longtime fans are also being incentivized through a Loyalty Reward system, which grants exclusive vehicles and items to those who have played previous Forza installments. Additionally, all preorders across any platform will include a pre-tuned Ferrari J50 at no extra cost.
While the immediate focus remains on the Microsoft ecosystem, the studio reiterated that a PlayStation 5 version is currently in development. Though it will miss the initial May launch window, the port is tentatively scheduled for the second half of 2026. For those remaining on Xbox, the Premium Edition offers a four-day early access period, allowing the most dedicated drivers to hit the streets of Japan starting May 15. With the soundtrack now confirmed to feature artists like Linkin Park, the stage is set for what appears to be the most ambitious Horizon festival to date.
