Stop Killing Games delivers a massive blow by backing a California bill that will ensure there’s more clear terms for the end of support of live service titles. This can be huge because it means that this primarily European movement is having an impact outside Europe, and in a big country nonetheless. Depending on how this goes, this can mark an era of change for one of the most contentious issues in the medium right now, the fact that we don’t really own what we pay for. Hopefully this results in a big reckoning for games of this kind, causing huge developer to focus again in smaller games.
Stop Killing Games goes wide
Apparently, they are taking aim at many kinds of live service games, with the exception of those that offer a subscription inside the game. This is a very interesting move cause it forces these companies to make the choice between not making these kinds of games, or making them more unappealing by dropping a subscription inside of it. This will essentially erase games that are free to play and with microtransactions on top of them, which will start a new era of live service with way less people.
Its crazy that this was able to be a thing in the first place, and Stop Killing Games is doing some amazing things to ensure we can live in the golden era yet again. As of now, the bill didn’t pass yet but considering they have the support of a lobby made by gamers, that being Stop Killing Games, they have the backing and arguments to fight against this practices. Hopefully it ends up passing, causing greedy companies to take the losses and leave gaming alone, unregulated casinos for children have gone too far already in the gaming world, and we don’t need them.
