Debug Nephemee really feels like a Japanese fan tribute to the ever popular Undertale, and this one just got quite the amazing trailer, if you were looking for something that feels like Undertale but is wholly original in other aspects this might be the game for you. Toei yet again saw the opportunity, and now they will publish this new indie entry as a title of their own, we will have to see if the people working with Toei Games get compensated correctly as publishers often take advantage of inexperienced people. Hopefully this is something that benefits all of us instead of one party.
Debug Nephemee is curious
The game system clearly bends into the narrative of a bug ridden land, and our mission will be to debug and help our friends, the Nephemee. To do this we need to know them in a personal level, which is quite similar to what happens in games like Undertale, where the main idea is befriending the enemy rather than killing them. I have a feeling this game has the potential to be quite the tear jerking story, much to the like of how Undertale made the whole PC gaming community cry back in the day.
There’s also tons of potential for comedy, although if we consider that this one is a Japanese entry we need to expect that it might not receive a proper translation. Hopefully Toei Games realizes this and the team behind Debug Nephemee gets enough resources to hire a huge team that can do the work perfectly and make justice to the text in the game. Being a narrative driven game, it would be pointless if the text is machine translated or even worse, “AI” translated, as it would miss all the nuance and humanity that it can have. Hopefully Debug Nephemee can be a global hit.
