Amazon Prime Video is set to release a live-action TV series based on the popular video game series, Yakuza, titled Like a Dragon: Yakuza. The series will premiere on October 25 and will be available in over 240 countries and territories, subtitled or dubbed in 30 languages.
The six-episode series will be released in two parts, with the first three episodes debuting on October 25 and the remaining three on November 1. The storyline spans two timelines, 1995 and 2005, following the life of Kazuma Kiryu, the main character from the video game series.
Japanese actor Ryoma Takeuchi will portray Kazuma Kiryu. In an Amazon press release, Takeuchi expressed his honor in playing the beloved character, emphasizing the show’s human drama and intense fight scenes.
Masaharu Take and Kengo Takimoto are directing the series, with Masayoshi Yokoyama, head of RYUGAGOTOKU Studio, serving as an executive producer. Yokoyama noted the challenges of adapting the game into a new format but expressed confidence in the show’s success.
The announcement follows Amazon’s success with other video game adaptations, like their Fallout series. Fans of the Yakuza games and newcomers alike can look forward to this gritty, action-packed adaptation.
