Warner Bros. Drops Wonder Woman Video Game, Shuts Three Studios

Warner Bros. Games officially stated that it was dropping its Wonder Woman video game and shutting down three game studios: Monolith Productions, WB San Diego, and Player First Games. This action comes after years of very little news regarding the Wonder Woman project, pointing to long-term frustration in production.

A Confounding Production is Ended

The Wonder Woman game was first revealed at The Game Awards 2021, and it generated hype with its show of Diana gripping her iconic Lasso of Truth. The game was reported to feature the Nemesis System, a much-maligned aspect of Monolith’s Middle-earth games. No notable information was revealed following the announcement, fueling rumors of production issues.

There were some previous rumors indicating that the game was to feature live services, something that was formerly condemned by the fan base. Since nothing emerged officially, Warner Bros’ failure to shoot down all those years ago went off as a warning. This is now that the studio closes and the game is being canceled out. Everyone now clearly sees that the game will never be published.

BREAKING: Warner Bros. Games is shutting down Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego, sources tell Bloomberg News. Warner Bros. is also canceling the Wonder Woman game.

Monolith Productions and Other Studios Shut Down

Wonder Woman’s cancellation shuts down Monolith Productions, a studio existing since 1994, and purchased by Warner Bros. in 2004. Monolith Productions is best known for creating F.E.A.R., Condemned, and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War games.

In addition to this, WB San Diego and Player First Games have shut down as well. Player First Games was working on behind MultiVersus, the free-to-play Super Smash Bros.-inspired battle that generated some excitement at first but was unable to sustain the community.

Warner Bros. Has a Tough Gaming World

Warner Bros. Games has not been exempt from its fair share of mistakes in the last couple of years. The launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a commercial failure across the board, and MultiVersus is on track to closing down. But it’s also won some wars, like with the unexpected success of Hogwarts Legacy, and with the success of the Mortal Kombat series.

In the foreseeable future, there is word from Warner Bros. on the making of a sequel for Hogwarts Legacy and another new Rocksteady Batman game, though there isn’t much word yet on these titles.
