Destiny 2’s Next Dungeon is Vesper’s Host; Contest Mode Guarantees the New Exotic Weapon

This week in Destiny revealed the new Destiny 2 dungeon’s name, detailed the first contest mode dungeon, and much more.

The new dungeon will be called Vesper’s Host, with the only image of it being reminiscent of Dead Space. Bungie confirmed it will launch on Oct. 11, with the remaining details focusing on the newly added dungeon contest mode.

Unlike normal dungeons, the contest mode version will have revive tokens, and enrage mechanics. These two details are what typically makes contest mode raids difficult, so it’s nice to see Bungie implement them in a dungeon. Other changes include more aggressive enemies, no advantage beyond 1985 power, and a 48 hour timer to complete it.

Perhaps the biggest change is unlocking the normal version prior to Contest mode being removed. Those uninterested in greater challenges can play the normal version when three fireteams have successfully finished the dungeon on contest mode, and meet all of the conditions to be considered a successful clear.

Based off the official rules, it seems winners will not receive the usual raid belt. Instead the prize is listed as an activewear hoodie, and bracelet, which has a listed MSRP of $145.

While not the most exciting prize, everyone who completes Vesper’s Host in the first 48 hours will get an emblem, and unlock the dungeon’s exotic. Previous teases indicate the weapon is Ice Breaker, the iconic sniper rifle that regenerated ammo, though Bungie did not confirm how the Destiny 2 version will work.

Anyone looking for a couple of new emblems can also watch the Twitch Rivals streams. Subscribing to select streamers will give one emblem, with another requiring the usual 2 hours watched. On Oct. 1 at 10:00 AM PT a developer livestream will also showcase various things players can expect from Destiny 2: Revenant. Watching this stream for 15 minutes will also give an exclusive emblem.

The same blog post also revealed a wide array of changes coming to PVP. Those interested can find all the details here.
