Modern Warfare 3 Ushers in a New Era of Open World Zombies

Modern Warfare 3 news has poured out of the Call of Duty Next event, revealing an all-new Zombies experience. The latest iteration of Zombies is taking the popular mode to a whole new level, sporting an open world that makes Black Ops Cold War‘s Outbreak mode look tiny.

Sledgehammer’s Call of Duty entry scales everything up by throwing the zombies action into a Warzone-sized map, complete with a spreading deadly Aether Storm. In Operation Deadbolt, other player squads will be present on the map, attempting to take on undead monstrosities and Viktor Zakhaev’s PMCs. But don’t expect to face off with these live players. This Zombies mode is PvE only; a refreshing change of pace for an extraction shooter.

Players will conquer the map by squaring off against the aforementioned baddies, securing precious loot, interacting with iconic equipment like Pack-A-Punch, and extracting before they are overwhelmed by the growing opposition. Admittedly, getting lucky with a Mystery Box and snagging the Ray Gun for exfil to use in a future run sure does sound enticing.

We’ll hear more as we near Modern Warfare 3‘s November 10th launch date. For now, check out the new Zombies mode in action below.
