Following its successful launch earlier this year, developer Pearl Abyss has officially confirmed it is exploring a Nintendo Switch 2 port for its open-world action title, Crimson Desert. Speaking during a July shareholder Q&A session, CEO Huh Jin-young revealed that while early development has reached a stage where basic gameplay is functional on the upcoming hardware, a public release remains a distant prospect.
Bringing the graphically demanding title to Nintendo’s next-generation platform presents significant technical hurdles. The open-world adventure originally debuted in March 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, pushing current-gen hardware with its highly detailed environments and complex combat systems. Jin-young noted that achieving the studio’s internal performance and visual standards on the Switch 2 will require extensive optimization and verification before any official release timeline can be established.
Industry analysts suggest that the port’s success will likely hinge on advanced upscaling technologies. Unlike its predecessor, Nintendo’s upcoming console is widely understood to feature compatibility with Nvidia’s DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology, driven by its custom Nvidia system-on-a-chip. With other major publishers leveraging DLSS to stabilize frame rates for demanding ports like Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Pearl Abyss is expected to follow a similar technical path to maintain gameplay fluidity.
The confirmation underscores Pearl Abyss’s broader strategy to maximize the game’s audience across as many ecosystems as possible. In the meantime, the studio continues to roll out post-launch support for the existing versions, recently deploying Patch 1.13.00 to introduce new end-game boss equipment and combat fixes. Shareholders were also given a brief update on the company’s broader release slate, with the highly anticipated creature-collecting game DokeV now officially targeted for a 2028 release window.
