One of the most striking aspects in both of the trailers (the one that came out last year and the one released yesterday at Sony’s State of Play) of Insomniac’s upcoming Wolverine is the heightened levels of gore that’ll make even Logan (2017) look like kindergarten stuff. And while the gore is totally fitting from both a narrative perspective and from the iconic character’s long history itself, the game will offer you a choice to turn down the extreme violence and gratifying gore altogether with a single click, which can help make the overall gameplay experience feel much more family-friendly.
In a recent interview with IGN, game director Mike Daly has stated how much integrated the violence is into the overall experience of the gameplay and to Wolverine as a character, while also saying that you can turn it all off if you want.
“When you look at the aspects of the character and all the stories he’s been through in his history, it was clear that violence was a key part of that,” Daly explained.
“Now, all that being said, we know that it’s not for everyone. And because we knew this was going to be a big part of the game from the beginning, we also implemented an accessibility feature to turn off gore.
“It’s clearly integrated into the game in a lot of different ways, and so it’s a nuanced feature that is very selective about what we show, what we censor, turning off blood and things like that, just to make it more palatable to people who don’t really want to have that part of the experience.”
The latest trailer from Insomniac’s Wolverine was released yesterday and features an extended gameplay showcasing both it’s brutal combat and some of the stealth mechanics. The game will also feature multiple characters familiar to fans such as Jean Grey, Sabretooth, Omega Red and more.
Wolverine will be slashing it’s way into the Playstation 5 on September 15 this year.
