This pivot back to the original Overwatch branding coincides with the announcement of the 10th Anniversary Event, which is scheduled to run from May 12 through June 1. The event serves as both a celebration of the game’s 2016 roots and a formal introduction to the “Reign of Talon” era.
The anniversary festivities are anchored by a significant distribution of legacy and community-driven content. Players can expect to earn or purchase 21 exclusive skins based on the original launch roster, alongside 15 specialized anniversary loot boxes. In a nod to the game’s enduring modding and creative scene, Blizzard is also including 33 cosmetics designed by the development team and community members. These rewards are supplemented by five unique weapon charms—including a winged “10” icon for Mercy—and exclusive player titles that can be earned through gameplay milestones.
A central component of this celebration is a new series of community challenges designed to drive engagement across the reworked platform. Starting this week, players will collaborate to hit global objectives to unlock legendary loot boxes. This follows the “Junkrat’s Loot Hunt” introductory event, which ends on May 12, offering a final window for players to stack double Battle Pass XP and preliminary rewards before the main anniversary content goes live. The shift back to a unified Overwatch title appears to be paying dividends, with the game seeing a resurgence in active players following the release of five new heroes earlier this season.
Looking ahead, Blizzard has confirmed that five additional heroes will debut before the end of the year, maintaining the aggressive content pace established in the February overhaul. While the studio has faced criticism for its handling of the transition between game versions, the current roadmap suggests a return to the “win-after-win” cadence that defined the title’s early years.
