It seems we’re currently seeing the birth of a new star in the extremely popular first person shooter genre and it’s name is Wardogs from developer Bulkhead–a brand new multiplayer shooter that has already reached a staggering 400,000 concurrent player count on Steam and is showing no signs of slowing down. All of this, while the game is still in it’s early access period which means the final release will definitely be even better in several aspects.
Wardogs has also surpassed a total of 1.25 million sold units and is currently skyrocketing through Steam charts, in a way that’s been unmatched in it’s genre since the open beta for Battlefield 6 came out last year.
“To cross a million copies sold as we launch into early access is mental,” said Joe Brammer, CEO of Bulkhead.
“We’ve spent the last few months showing people exactly what Wardogs is, what it isn’t, and at one point literally gave everyone ten reasons not to buy it. We didn’t want people buying into blind hype. So seeing more than one million people choose to jump in and play the game at early access launch means a huge amount to all of us. But this is still early access. We’ve got things to fix, things we want to improve and a lot more we want to build. The best thing players can do now is keep playing, keep telling us what they think and keep giving us those ridiculous Wardogs moments.”
Wardogs is also experiencing a hugely positive critical reception as according to SteamDB, there’s over 78% of positive reviews and around 21% negative scores, indicating an exceptionally strong debut for developer Bulkhead.
While Wardogs is available to play only on the PC platform, it’s been confirmed that the game is currently targeting a 2028 release on the consoles, which is sure to expand it’s ongoing playerbase significantly.
