Famitsu rates Beast of Reincarnation with an amazing 35/40

Famitsu

Famitsu has spoken, and they seem to really enjoy Game Freak’s new game, this is a pretty favorable review for a game that has a very shaky reception right now. I wonder if they played through the entire game to ensure that everything is alright, or if they got an alternate version that does not suffer many issues. Considering how the industry goes, something particular must have happened for it to receive this score, but as we know reviews are often opinion pieces with some facts thrown around for the sake of information. Alas, I’m not entirely sure I agree with this score.

Famitsu does it again

Famitsu has always been a particular source for scores, having rated some games with obvious flaws with 40/40, which is pretty much the perfect score in every category. The fact that someone goes as far as to say a game has no flaws shows that scoring systems are inherently flawed. On Steam, we can see that Beast of Reincarnation sits at a 50% score, meaning that reviews are mixed and some people really seem to hate the game too. Most people also bring forward the very same problems, those being controls and repetitive gameplay.

Although, we could apply the “repetitive gameplay” argument to pretty much every game we have ever played, that’s what a game loop is in game design. Unfortunately while that might not be the main issue, the fact that controls don’t work that well in a souls like game is pretty damning. Precision is of utmost importance in games like this, and the camera angle the game defaults too is really not the best according to some players. Thankfully, with today’s advancements on technology, we can remotely patch games, and Beast of Reincarnation might benefit from some quick fix, even if Famitsu thinks its pretty good.
