Japanese publication Famitsu has awarded Game Freak’s dark action-RPG, Beast of Reincarnation, a high-ranking score of 35 out of 40 ahead of its scheduled release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The total rating reflects four separate critic evaluations, with three reviewers awarding the title a 9 out of 10 and one providing an 8 out of 10. This initial review marks a strong critical debut for a project that strays far from the developer’s traditional design philosophy.
Developed by the team historically responsible for the mainline Pokémon series and published by Fictions, Beast of Reincarnation places players in control of a survivor named Emma as she navigates a hostile, post-apocalyptic environment alongside her loyal canine companion. The title combines Soulslike elements with fast-paced action combat, presenting a mature tone that contrasts sharply with the family-friendly RPGs that have defined Game Freak’s library for over three decades.
The strong reception from Famitsu also draws attention to the game’s polished visual presentation and performance, areas that have drawn significant scrutiny in Game Freak’s recent output. Following widespread technical criticism surrounding Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on the Nintendo Switch, the sleek aesthetic shown in Beast of Reincarnation offers clear evidence of what the studio can achieve on higher-spec hardware and dedicated home platforms.
Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass will be able to access the title on day one, providing the new intellectual property with an immediate player base at launch. Although no Nintendo platform release has been officially confirmed by the publisher, industry observers anticipate a potential port down the line, especially with Game Freak’s next major core title, Pokémon Winds and Waves, not expected to arrive until 2027.
