Sony Interactive Entertainment has indefinitely delayed the launch of its highly anticipated FlexStrike Fight Stick, originally scheduled to release alongside Arc System Works’ Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls on August 6, 2026. First revealed under the codename Project Defiant during a June 2025 State of Play, the premium peripheral was meant to serve as the flagship controller for the upcoming fighting game. Sony cited unexpected production delays as the reason for the setback, stating that the extra development time will be used to add final polishes to the hardware.
The delay of the FlexStrike is a significant blow to competitive players who were planning to transition to the new hardware on day one. The fight stick was heavily marketed for its versatility, boasting a fast wireless connection via PlayStation Link, a toolless system for swapping restrictor gates, and a robust rechargeable battery. With no revised release window provided by Sony, early adopters of Marvel Tokon will now have to rely on existing fight sticks or standard DualSense controllers when the game launches.
Compounding the community’s frustration, PC players have discovered that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will enforce a strict PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement. This integration has effectively blocked purchases and access in 132 countries where PSN services are legally unavailable, triggering immediate comparison to the controversial PC launch of Helldivers 2. Neither Sony nor Arc System Works has officially addressed the regional restrictions, leaving a substantial portion of the global fighting game community in limbo.
Despite these peripheral and regional hurdles, anticipation remains high for the game’s actual content. Arc System Works recently shared a closer look at the single-player Episode Mode, showcasing a blend of comic-book-inspired cinematic cutscenes and traditional 2D fighting gameplay. The preview also offered fans their first glimpse of in-game models and move sets for major bosses, including The Promoter and The Champion, confirming that the game is still on track to deliver a feature-rich experience at launch.
