The most anticipated videogame of all time, Rockstar’s GTA 6 is well expected to make and break all kinds of records when it comes out this November and based on what’s possibly the strongest pre-order campaign in history, the open world behemoth could make a colossal $5 billion just in it’s first week. According to Newzoo, an industry leading data firm, GTA 6 has racked up approximately $260 million in terms of global pre-order sales, however, the company denies the claims of the upcoming title making over a billion dollar from pre-orders alone and has labelled those rumors as ‘absurd’.
Based on the company’s Game Performance Monitor, GTA 6 has generated $180 million in pre-orders across the United States and five key European markets and when coupled with figures from the rest of the world, the game’s total pre-order sales could reach as much as $260 million.
According to Newzoo’s Ronan Patrick: “What the data actually shows is $180 million in digital pre-order spend across the US and the five largest European markets in the final week of June, translating to a global opening week of roughly $260 million, with most of the ramp still ahead.
Run that figure through the plausible band of preorder curves, and GTA VI is on track to book between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion in week-one launch revenue.”
Patrick also added the following: “The first week of pre-orders generated an estimated $260 million in global digital spending, the largest opening Newzoo has observed. For a title launching in May 2027, the scale of demand this far ahead of release is rare, even among the industry’s biggest franchises. Historically, pre-order launches of this scale have been associated with the biggest commercial releases.”
GTA 5, which came out back in 2013, had hit $1 billion in just three days and GTA 6 could very well earn four times that in one week especially with most players getting the $100 Ultimate Edition over the no-frills Standard Edition. So in a way, GTA 6 effectively costs $100 as no one would want to compromise on their experience of what’s easily the most eagerly awaited game in history.
GTA 6 is slated to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
