The Call of Duty franchise has long been accused of iteration over innovation but it seems this year’s Modern Warfare 4 will breathe new life into the iconic first person shooter series in more ways than one, starting from one of the maps in the game titled Kill Block that can essentially shapeshift into wholly different sections of layouts. In the recent Philosophy of Multiplayer–Episode 2 video from Infinity Ward, the devs break down one of the biggest highlights in the next Call of Duty which is the Kill Block map that features a staggering number of possible combinations, ensuring a fresh experience and sense of discovery for all players.

Geoff Smith, the upcoming Modern Warfare 4’s Studio MP Creative Director, spoke about the ‘next level’ of arcade shooter multiplayer evolution which is a map that actually feels like a living, changing entity by itself which also gives it a character of it’s own and is refreshingly different from everything we’ve seen from the franchise so far.

Originally a Shoot House (a map that first debuted in 2019’s Modern Warfare) sized map made up of three ‘slabs’ that can be randomized at runtime by the game at every match–ensuring a dynamic experience for players while also keeping them on their toes at all times. Smith also said that over 900 different slabs of layouts are possible but due to technical limitations, they can make the combinations down to around 500 which still offers a massive degree of overall playability due to the map alone.

Check out the video from 4:21 onwards for a full breakdown of the Kill Block map in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

In other news of the next Call of Duty, it’s been recently confirmed that the PC version of Modern Warfare 4 will have various Ray Tracing effects for reflections, ambient occlusion, shadows and volumetrics.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch on October 23 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch 2.
