Subnautica 2 was leaked, just 2 days shy from being released on the Steam store, this might end up affecting the release of one of the most awaited sequels in PC gaming. This happened around the same time that Forza Horizon 6 was leaked, which was a huge surprise considering this was a very important release coming from a publisher like Xbox themselves. Subnautica 2 used to be under the control of Krafton, but it was since been abandoned by them to cede the license to the original creators after a messy drama happened between the publisher and the developers.
Subnautica 2 got unlucky
There’s many theories surrounding this situation, but I have a personal favorite for what might have happened. Someone at Krafton must have tried to boycott the game in some way, and to do so they decided to leak stuff to ruin the release of it. There has been images circulating that shouldn’t be out there, some even report to see gameplay videos out there. Speculations abound on how this even happened in the first place, the most logical one being that maybe the pre-sale feature in Steam is bugged and accidentally gave people the game before the release date.
Subnautica 2 might not be as big as Forza Horizon 6, but it is yet another awaited game to suffer from the same consequence as the aforementioned title. I have a feeling that maybe Valve coded some wrong parameters in their updates, and this ended up causing people to play way earlier than anticipated in the pre-sale period. Considering how AI slop is slowly invading code bases, it wouldn’t be weird if this disaster was caused by a bug, since this a first in gaming history to happen with such momentum, to have 2 big leaks, some even suggesting a third one might be coming.
