Legend of Mana has to be one of the most beautiful games in the PS1 library, it recently got a port to PC that allows people to interact with the Japan only Pocket Station mini game that many thought didn’t exist at first. After the release on Steam, it seems that Square Enix has decided that it would be a good idea to also release it on GOG, and it definitely is a good idea because a good old game like this deserves to join the catalogue. More companies should be focusing on bringing hidden classics, Bandai Namco being a company that has many for example.
Legend of Mana on GOG
Legend of Mana is a very important game, mainly because it defies the expectations set by the series and tries to bring something truly unique. The art style is beautiful, and it was considered one of the most beautiful games Square put on the console back when they didn’t merge with Enix. This HD Remaster is a neat way to enjoy the game and get to interact with features the Western side of the globe didn’t manage to see before. I will admit the only blunder is that the maps and background art look to clean compared to the character sprites.
Pocket Station features being restored is something genuinely big, and its nice to see many games implementing solutions to these problems considering Pocket Station emulation is in a cumbersome state. That’s the kind of extra people want to see when they buy an old game like this again, something that justifies the fact on why you are buying it again instead of emulating it. The release in GOG is also amazing cause that means we can actually own what we paid for, which does not happen with Steam for example.
