Empire Earth just got re-released on PC, not only the first game but also all of the other games in the series from the first to the third. This is huge for fans of the series cause now they will be able to play a classic without having to tinker for a lot of time to make it work on newer systems. At the same time, updating the game this way means that it will run without problems under Linux, so more reasons to switch to the superior operating system. Empire Earth is a fun little gem some might have forgotten, but I certainly didn’t forget.
Empire Earth is out again
The series started way back in 2001, and in fact it was spearheaded by someone involved in the development of the Age of Empires series. The similarities exist for a reason, and sometimes people are compelled to not fix what isn’t broken, but we can clearly see there is improvements over the rendering when you compare it to Age of Empires, you can see what’s going on from different camera angles and that is awesome. Empire Earth holds a very particular art style that makes it look like something that isn’t precisely an Age of Empires clone, it has its own identity.
The series didn’t last that long, in fact no new game has been made for around two decades now, maybe they are teasing a revival of sorts which would be greatly appreciated. I do have my hopes grounded however, as I think this is just a re-release to preserve the legacy of the game and make it easy for people to run it without much issues. People love retro now, and considering the landscape of gaming can be a bit moody returning to old classics helps alleviate the tensions.
