Although the upcoming and hotly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced features a completely reworked and overhauled combat system, making the action far more fluid, intuitive and satisfying, it retains the DNA of the original Black Flag as it’s still an action-adventure title at it’s heart and not an RPG. In a lengthy post which outlines many of the new combat and HUD changes, Ubisoft has confirmed that at it’s core, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is still essentially Black Flag, in more ways than one:
“Although health and defense bars are present in default settings, this does not change the fact that Black Flag Resynced remains an action-adventure game,” Ubisoft wrote. “The combat works similarly to the original game, with health and defense bars being optional. There are no levels, no gear scores and no progression gates.”
And during the earlier official unveiling of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Game Director Richard Knight had also emphasized that the upcoming title is not an RPG, in any shape or form which will definitely help everyone who played the original get onboard with the upcoming remake: “This remains a solo adventure and character-driven experience. It is not an RPG. The focus stays on how you play, and how you explore the world.”
The post also details multiple HUD presets for Resynced and the default one will show both enemy health and defense bars, which will provide a better understanding of the new Enemy Defense mechanic in the game and will also help you nail the timed parries and other telegraphed moves in the new combat system.
Also, just like the original, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is rated M for Mature by the ESRB, with its content description warning people about blood and violence.
The Black Flag Remake is also reported to cut out the modern day segments which were present in the original game and instead focus on the internal struggles of protagonist Edward Kenway in ways that we haven’t seen before, which could be a bit divisive for players of the original title.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is slated to be released on July 9th.
