Kingdom Come: Deliverance Finally Receives Long-Awaited Next-Gen Upgrade

Warhorse Studios has officially deployed the massive 1.9.7 update for the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, finally bringing the 2018 medieval RPG natively to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This long-rumored enhancement arrives as a free upgrade for existing owners on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, effectively bridging the technical gap between the aging last-gen hardware and the capabilities of modern consoles.

The patch represents a significant milestone for a title that was often criticized for its technical instability at launch. While the original release garnered a dedicated following for its uncompromising historical realism and complex simulation of 15th-century Bohemia, it was frequently hampered by performance hitches and long loading times on older hardware. This native current-gen version aims to rectify those legacy issues, leveraging the SSD speeds and increased processing power of the PS5 and Series X/S to provide the fluid experience that the developer’s ambitious vision originally demanded.

This sudden focus on the first entry in the franchise is no coincidence. The move follows the massive critical and commercial windfall of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which dominated the industry landscape upon its 2025 release. After securing a Game of the Year nomination at The Game Awards, the sequel has driven a substantial resurgence in the series. By modernizing the first game now, Warhorse is ensuring that the influx of new fans can return to Henry’s origins without the friction of outdated technical constraints.

For the veterans who stuck with the game through its “rough around the edges” period, the 1.9.7 update serves as a final, polished word on a landmark RPG. It transforms a cult classic into a modern staple, ensuring that its hardcore mechanics—ranging from its rhythmic directional combat to its punishing survival systems—can be appreciated without the distraction of technical failures. As interest in the Kingdom of Bohemia remains at an all-time high, this update ensures the foundational chapter of the Warhorse Studios catalog remains relevant for years to come.

Playground Games Confirms 15-to-20 Hour Campaign for Fable Reboot Playground Games has confirmed that the upcoming Fable reboot will feature a mainline story lasting between 15 and 20 hours. Speaking during a group press session at Gamescom 2026, associate game director Will Kennedy outlined the scope of the project, stating that the central questline is paired with a similar 15-to-20-hour block of side quests and open-world exploration. Beyond authored content, the developers emphasized that the title’s simulation and life systems allow for indefinite play depending on player investment. Full coverage of the interview context can be found in Polygon’s developer Q&A. This targeted duration keeps the reboot in line with the structure of Lionhead Studios' original trilogy rather than the massive scale of modern role-playing games. The 2004 original averaged roughly 12.5 hours for its main path, while Fable II and Fable III clocked in at approximately 13 and 13.5 hours respectively. By keeping the core path concise, Playground Games appears focused on density and narrative pacing rather than padding out the experience with mandatory filler. Community reception to the announcement has leaned positive, particularly among veteran players who prefer tightly structured campaigns over 100-hour commitments. As discussed in a active Reddit community thread, many players welcomed the focused runtime, noting that the series' signature alignment shifts and choice-driven paths naturally encourage multiple playthroughs. The game’s optional activities will include property ownership, local employment, and dynamic NPC interactions, extending gameplay well past the main story credits. Following previous delays, Fable is scheduled to launch on February 23, 2027, for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
