Not many remember Brigandine, a tactical game in the original PlayStation that struggled with its sales yet it left quite the important legacy behind it. I usually have a huge bingo of things to expect for these kinds of events and they are filled with tons of niche things that should make a return but will probably never do so. However, Brigandine wasn’t one of my entries in the bingo of this year so I’m genuinely surprised for this huge reveal that will surely make the PS5 more worthwhile. Coming in 2026, Brigandine Abyss is set to resurrect the once dead SRPG vanguard by Sony.
New Brigandine game dropped
This is amusing and unexpected, we even get people from the Fire Emblem Series collaborating to make this game great by adding new systems to it. The only way this series of tactical RPGs can make a big return is if they just modernize a bit while keeping the core original mechanics intact, respecting the original game is very important to ensure that you can cultivate a long lasting fanbase around it. At the same time, constant sequels might also be what gets the series running too, this is pretty much a niche series without much going on for it.
Getting fans back can be hard, especially after long periods of inactivity and failing to meet their wishes, but I’m very sure Happinet can pull this series back together with some amazing tricks they have under the hood. Hopefully Brigandine Abyss manages to be successful enough to create a stable series of games out of it, as more SRPG games in the market mean more opportunities for me and others to be strategic in the battlefield.
