Rockstar Confirms Trailer 2 for GTA 6 was captured entirely on the base Playstation 5

After the release of the astonishingly detailed and almost photorealistic second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 or GTA 6, there were some doubts regarding whether the footage in the trailer indeed ran on a PS5, as written on the small print shown at it’s end. This is cause of how lifelike and vivid everything looked in the trailer, almost as if it was running on at least a high-end PC. But Rockstar has just stated in a social media post that everything we saw in the second trailer for GTA 6 was indeed captured on the base PS5.

“Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5, comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes”, reads the full post from Rockstar Games.

Given the fact that the footage ran on a four year old console, it makes GTA 6 look even more impressive from a technical standpoint. And if observed with a keen eye, heavy upscaling on foliage and other parts in the scenes can be detected which would not be there if it was running on a high-end PC. This also proves that the footage we saw is only the baseline level of visual fidelity that GTA 6 can deliver, which means it’s going to be an absolute graphical delight when the game eventually makes it’s way to the PC as happened with GTA 5.

The devs at Rockstar is known as unparalleled technical wizards and they’ve clearly worked their magic in this trailer as well, given the enormous amount of optimizations that were required to make a game of this magnitude run on the consoles at locked 30 FPS all the time.

The recent trailer 2 has also made it abundantly clear that Rockstar’s in-house RAGE game engine has surpassed the Unreal Engine 5 by delivering what’s easily the most lifelike looking visuals seen in a videogame yet.

GTA 6 is slated to be released on May 26, 2026 for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
