Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 on Linux and Steam Deck is here

Seems like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 on Linux works just right. Since the title is now Steam Deck Compatible, it is possible to play it on any Linux distribution without major issues. However, for Steam Deck users, there is a little caveat that will be discussed today. We at Infinite Start will give more depth to the topic.

Steam deck for the win?

Games are getting progressively more bloated as tech advances. This is caused by multiple factors, one of those being dev crunch. Due to the fact that games are treated as a product that needs to be pumped out, some important details are not considered. One of those details is compatibility support, which can ironically increase sales of your title. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 on Linux, provided you have very nice specs, works flawlessly.

However, for Steam Deck users, there’s a trick, it is possible to run the game with all settings at low, and get some good FPS that don’t surpass 60. The issue comes when trying to get into the busier areas of the game. Suddenly, your FPS might start dropping below 30 on the Steam Deck and this can be quite problematic for some. It is still impressive that a portable system with the specs of the Steam Deck can run a game like this. It would be neat if the experience was more seamless, however.

There is ways to implement fixes, and one of those is to try and use better engines to develop games. Engines focused on resource management, and perhaps stop trying to chase the dragon of uncanny realism. Realism has been an issue in the industry for decades now, it is time for developers to realize that graphic realism does not make their games good. In fact, realism will only bring issues in the long run, by cannibalizing every other art style.
