Microsoft has confirmed that inXile Entertainment’s upcoming RPG, Clockwork Revolution, will be an Xbox console exclusive. Announced during the June 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, the decision marks a distinct pivot from the multiplatform publishing strategy that the company has heavily leaned into over the last two years. According to Xbox leadership, console players will only be able to access the title on Xbox Series X and Series S, alongside a day-one release on PC.
The announcement serves as the first major strategic shift under new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who took over the role in February 2026. Speaking on the decision, Sharma emphasized a renewed focus on tailoring high-profile experiences specifically for the Xbox ecosystem. To solidify this direction, Microsoft clarified that this is not a timed exclusivity window, meaning rival consoles like the PlayStation 5 will be bypassed entirely. Gears of War: E-Day received an identical exclusivity pledge during the same showcase.
This policy reversal has met with a wave of skepticism from the gaming community. When Microsoft began porting first-party titles to competing platforms in early 2024, many fans and analysts assumed that major upcoming releases would eventually follow suit. Given the frequency of corporate strategy shifts at Xbox over the last decade, early reactions on platforms like Reddit suggest that players remain unconvinced that the company will permanently stick to this exclusive model.
By anchoring its console exclusivity strategy to a brand-new IP like Clockwork Revolution, Microsoft is taking a calculated risk. Unlike established franchises with predictable market caps, an ambitious, big-budget steampunk RPG from a respected studio represents a significant investment meant to drive hardware adoption. Whether this strategy will successfully incentivize players to buy into the Xbox ecosystem remains to be seen, but the move establishes a clear line in the sand for the brand’s immediate future. The game is currently scheduled for a 2027 launch window.
