The upcoming Doom: The Dark Ages was one of the highlights of the recent Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct 2025 showcase which saw the game getting it’s Official Release date, new gameplay footage along with tons of other information for anyone who’s looking forward to the most recent entry in the legendary Doom series of first person shooters.
First off, Doom: The Dark Ages is set to release on May 15, 2025 for the Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC platform. The game also launches day one on the Microsoft’s game pass while the Collector’s Edition Bundle will have up to two days of early access. It’s currently unknown whether Doom: The Dark Ages will also arrive on the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2.
The game will come in three different editions which include the Standard Edition with a pre-order bonus Void skin. The Premium Edition of the game will cost $99.99 and packs the base game with several digital add-ons which includes several DLCs, an Artbook, the game’s official soundtrack and multiple in-game bonus skins.
Doom: The Dark Ages will also have a Collector’s Bundle Edition which is priced at $199.99 and includes everything from the Premium plus physical collectibles along with a 12-inch Doom Slayer statue, a key card replica, and a steelbook case. This version is clearly aimed at the most enthusiast fans of the series so if you’re one of them, this is simply going to be essential for you.
Also, in a press announcement, executive producer Marty Stratton and game director Hugo Martin has confirmed that Doom: The Dark Ages will be Single-Player only, which can be a bit of a surprise for fans considering both of the earlier titles in the series, 2016’s Doom and its sequel, 2020’s Doom Eternal featured Online Multiplayer. But the devs explained that this decision will result in the most epic and memorable campaign ever seen in the series.
“We made that decision early so that we could really just go all in on the campaign,” Stratton said. “It’s our largest, most expansive, most epic campaign ever and we’re just really happy with the decision and I think it’s been awesome to have the team focused just on polishing and finishing the campaign.”
He also added that the omission of Multiplayer has also helped the developers to add unique gameplay features in Doom: The Dark Ages that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. These include the ability of the players to ride a fire-breathing dragon and commandeer 30-story high Atlan mechs in the game.
“That’s why we were able to put the dragon and the Atlan in,” Martin said. “I mean, these are things we’ve wanted to do in the game for multiple games now, but couldn’t because we had a multiplayer component which we loved, but really it was meant to just focus on the single player campaign and just level up that experience for players.”
You can Pre-Order several editions of Doom: The Dark Ages on Steam right now.
