Halo Infinite Won’t Have Repeatable Story Missions; Will be Added in a Future Update

Similar to Godfall, Halo Infinite has been going down a bumpy road. First there were concerns about the fantastic multiplayers pass, a few responses that resulted in the whole subreddit being locked, with now Polygon reporting story missions won’t be repeatable.

Apparently the issue stems from Halo Infinite‘s open-world. Either by making certain areas inaccessible, like the first two missions, or something that alters with progress. Thankfully some, but not all, locations will allow for exploration after completing the mission, players just won’t trigger the story mission a second time.

With these concerns Polygon reached out to Microsoft and got the following response:

The postgame does give you the option to keep exploring the wider environment, but for missions like the first two, where you’re not on the ring yet, you can’t replay from the same save file. You’d be able to get any remaining FOBs, targets, [and] audio logs, but the main story missions would not repeat.

This sucks players will need to make a new save to potentially complete some tasks, though there are plans to change this. Paul Crocker, 343 Industries associate creative director, explained the situation to The Verge in response to the issue:

We haven’t announced a date but that is being worked on.

We want to have replay that works well, and when you have a more open game, it gets a lot trickier. So we made a decision to improve the quality of the single-player campaign to ensure that, as a foundation, that it’s as strong as it possibly could be so that we could then add the other features back in.

While many are still excited for Halo Infinite‘s campaign, which releases tomorrow and included with Xbox Game Pass, it joins an ever growing list of missing features. With this, along with Forge and Co-Op set to also release sometime in 2022, it puts the highly anticipated title in an interesting place, one where you might be better off waiting for a more complete version to enjoy.
