Slay the Spire 2 developer has revealed that thousands of cards didn’t make the cut for the final game, this was an “incredibly destructive process” that made them feel like a butcher, slashing away at countless reject ideas that couldn’t make it in. This is a very similar thing card game companies do when designing games, so its nice to see some parallels show up between game industries. Regardless, the current release of Slay the Spire 2 is nothing short of amazing, and I’m really hyped to see what’s in store for such an epic game like this.
Slay the Spire 2 has tons of cut content
Perhaps if someone looks into the files of the game, they might be able to find something that remains from the early process of game development, this is one of my favorite parts in gaming, finding what didn’t make the cut. The game development process is an arduous one filled with many obstacles and challenges to beat, sometimes sacrifices need to be made and a ton of butchering ensues. Be it characters, levels, or even entire story lines, developers rarely seem to not axe anything from their games. While Slay the Spire 2 might not have anything visible, perhaps someone who goes deep enough can find something.
This is something crucial to ensure that quality remains stable, and while cuts rarely happen in small games sometimes you can find some missing assets that sometimes are minor, but sometimes reveal a gameplay mechanic that was lost. The more one streamlines the game making process however, the less quirky bits we can find in the code compared to the golden era of gaming. Sometimes some of those cut things were essential to keep the game running, so they were often tucked away to maintain stability and prevent severe glitches. If you didn’t get Slay the Spire 2, consider doing so now.
