Despite most of the videogame industry currently implementing AI in various forms in the process of making games which can also result in layoffs for many developers and workers, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick has confirmed that AI tools won’t be replacing human workers, at least when it comes to their company. During the latest investment call for Take-Two’s financial report, the CEO has emphasized that AI shouldn’t replace human developers, which sounds reassuring:

“The first of our core pillars is creativity,” noted Zelnick. “And we have 13,000 colleagues around the world, the vast majority of whom are people who are creative every day. We believe the technology can enhance their creativity, but we do not believe it can or should replace their creativity.”

He also made it clear how the role of technology should be regarding the future, at least for Take-Two:

“Technology should make it easier for our incredibly creative people to innovate. For better or for worse, and I happen to think it’s very much for the better, those tools are not going to replace anyone.”

And although he’s aware of some of their competitors “announcing opportunities to save hundreds of millions of dollars with AI,” that’s not the way he wants to take the company into:

“I’ve said since the beginning that the history of new technology in the interactive entertainment business is efficiencies are indeed created, and we find ways to do bigger and bigger things,” he said. “We actually don’t reduce the cost of doing those things, but we can meaningfully increase the quality.”

In their latest earnings report, Take-Two has also mentioned that there’s currently a total of 29 titles in development which include Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 that’s currently scheduled to release on November 19 this year for the consoles. There’s also three new IPs that are in active development right now and include Judas by Ghost Story Games and Project ETHOS by 31st Union, however, their release dates are currently unknown.
