Despite losing out to Battlefield 6 this year as the highest selling first person shooter, a title that nearly all Call of Duty games have enjoyed for more than a decade, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has still managed to become the best selling game of December 2025 in the United States. The sales figure for last month clearly proves that the Call of Duty brand still remains one of the biggest in gaming and can still push sales units pretty comfortably amidst stiff competition.
This report comes from Mat Piscatella, the Senior Director & Video Game Industry Thought Leader at Circana, which also points out that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 had managed to outsold it’s rival Battlefield 6 in the month of December which is now at the third spot in the list.

The Call of Duty franchise has been accused by many players and critics for getting repetitive and stale for a long time and it seems this year’s Battlefield 6 and all the phenomenal success EA’s flagship shooter has had so far may actually force Activision and the devs to make changes to what has become a fairly familiar mold of gameplay, on a more fundamental level.
So even though the juggernaut first person shooter series has slowed down quite a bit this year, there’s still more than enough time to inject new Life into the games and make the franchise feel fresh all over again.
