Front Mission 3 Remake has a page on Steam, and PC gamers can try out a new demo to see if they like it or not. Based on what has happened with previous entries, there is a big probability that this one will be as soulless as the rest. Aesthetics have been reduced to pure 3D, that’s a given, and it does not emanate the same creative passion that the original releases had. The only thing we are going to get is something modernized, corporate, and even sterile in a way, maybe ports might be more preferable over full on disrespectful remakes.
Front Mission 3 Remake might be bad
This is the same studio that did the remake for the original game, and the sequel went under everyone’s radar too. This is because nobody liked what happened with the series and they would prefer playing the original SNES releases. This one is a PS1 title however, and a ton of the artistic vision for that game has been disrespected. Art is timeless, and there’s many ways it can be beautiful too, early 3D has become an art style much to the like of pixel art in modern games. Some may claim its limitations, but this is a 2000s game.
Front Mission 3 Remake might disappoint many, perhaps it might even deal with cuts on the story and censorship, if you really want to get into the series your best bet is playing the remake that was made for DS of the first game. Not only it does respect the SNES game even down to the graphics, but it also adds a whole story campaign that wasn’t in the original SNES release. Classics of the tactical genre like this deserve better, imagine if Final Fantasy Tactics got butchered like Front Mission 3 Remake is, people would get very mad.
