Besides GTA 6, another game that can easily generate a monumental level of hype and anticipation, for all the good reasons, is none other than The Elder Scrolls 6 which is the successor of Skyrim, a genre-redefining experience that’s widely and rightfully considered as one of the greatest games of all time. When Skyrim first came out, it basically rewrote and redefined the rules of the Open World RPG gameplay sandbox and players and fans alike would expect The Elder Scrolls 6 to do the same or even more when it comes out.
But as Bethesda development chief Todd Howard said in a recent interview with GQ Magazine, it’s going to be quite a while before we hear anything official regarding The Elder Scrolls 6.
Speaking on Elder Scrolls 6, Howard said it’s “still a long way off,” also adding that he doesn’t want fans to get all fired up about the game just yet: “I’m preaching patience. I don’t want fans to feel anxious.”
“I do like to have a break between them, where it isn’t like a ‘plus one’ sequel,” Howard said of making The Elder Scrolls games again. “I think it’s also good for an audience to have a break — The Elder Scrolls has been too long, let’s be clear. But we wanted to do something new with Starfield. We needed a creative reset.”
It’s also implied that Bethesda is currently playtesting The Elder Scrolls 6 which means the game is already past a major chunk of it’s overall development period. But it’s likely that it won’t see a release date before the next-gen consoles arrive, which can take about a couple more years at least.
“I like to just announce stuff and release it,” Howard continued. “My perfect version — and I’m not saying this is going to happen — is that it’s going to be a while and then, one day, the game will just appear.”
It’s also important to note that GTA 6 is on the horizon and is destined to completely take over the industry once it comes out in fall 2026 up until at least a full year or even more. So it only makes sense for any official info on Elder Scrolls 6 to surface after the GTA 6 storm has passed which can take around 2027 or more cause otherwise, the next Elder Scrolls can’t get the kind of attention and hype that it deserves, based on it’s pedigree and the series’ overall influence in gaming.
But one thing’s for certain, beyond GTA 6, it’s Elder Scrolls 6 as the next colossal event in gaming that will send shockwaves through the industry and maybe even more.
