As the eagerly awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 launch nears, fans go wild at the prospects of what the next version of the beloved franchise has to offer. However, one some old-time voice will be missing from the Vice City streets. Lazlow Jones, a character that has been part of the series since Grand Theft Auto 3 in 2001, will most likely not be in the upcoming game.
The potential exit of the character signifies an end of an era for several long-time players. Lazlow started as a radio host on the “Chatterbox” station in Grand Theft Auto 3. The role slowly expanded through the years. He got more significant roles in Vice City and San Andreas truly made his on-screen debut in Grand Theft Auto 5. His comedic and sometimes absurd radio segments and appearances formed one of the mainstays of the GTA experience, injecting much-needed moments of laugh and personality in the franchise’s history.
Lazlow himself talked about this in a recent interview. He stated he had left Rockstar Games in 2020 and is currently with Dan Houser’s new company, Absurd Ventures. While he seems to kind of leave the door open for a return, he suggests he has had no input on Grand Theft Auto 6, much to the dismay of many who saw him as a “staple” of the games.
Nevertheless, fans remain excited about Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar Games has slated it to be released on May 26, 2026. Although they haven’t shared information on gameplay or online features yet, the two trailers released so far have broken records. The game will introduce two new playable protagonists, Jason and Lucia, returning to the iconic Vice City. There will surely be a gap left by Lazlow, but fans hope the new radio stations and in-game characters will be able to live up to expectations set by the franchise.
