As reported by VGC, Capcom today announced that Monster Hunter Wilds senior producer Ryozo Tsujimoto will become Chief Product Officer (CPO) on April 1, 2025. The veteran producer replaces retiring Yoichi Egawa and will be among the most powerful individuals at the company.

Tsujimoto arrived at Capcom in 1996 and began working with the company through the development of arcade titles such as Battle Circuit. He first worked in the Monster Hunter series with Monster Hunter Freedom before working on Monster Hunter Tri and later games, like the recent Monster Hunter Wilds. Throughout his tenure, Tsujimoto’s stewardship transformed Monster Hunter into the top Capcom franchise, especially after transforming Monster Hunter: World.

His new game, Monster Hunter Wilds, took off to all-time highs of popularity, rising to the second most-played game on Steam and best-rated game on the PlayStation Store in a week. The game itself has received huge acclaim, even with technical bugs for some users, cementing the franchise further.

In his new position, Tsujimoto will take charge of all three Consumer Games business units belonging to Capcom, which are responsible for developing big franchises like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Devil May Cry. Capcom’s pachinko business, on the other hand, formerly headed by Egawa, will now be in charge of Chief Operating Officer Haruhiro Tsujimoto.

Though Tsujimoto’s promotion is a recognition of his work for the company, it could also mean a change in the direction of Capcom’s next move. His extensive experience in action RPGs will likely impact the company’s next move. Nevertheless, his new role will likely make him more concerned with the business plan as a whole than with the development per se.

Despite technological glitches in Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom’s decision to promote Tsujimoto is a sign that the company has faith in his leadership capacity. With the Monster Hunter series still performing well, his vision will come first when it comes to shaping the company’s future with its most celebrated game franchises.
