In a world where the super villains won and people have been under their oppressive rule for two decades, it’s going to take a ragtag group of budding superheroes to take on the formidable force that is The Company. That’s the basis for Spitfire Interactive’s superhero-infused turn-based strategy game, Capes. And it’s coming from a team whose history stretches back to similarly-themed games, including 2002’s Freedom Force and 2006’s Teen Titans. Needless to say, these developers are no strangers to super-powered beings.
We don’t have to wait long to see how Capes stands up against their previous works, as publisher Daedelic Entertainment has announced that our assembled teams of heroes will be fighting the forces of evil on May 29th across all current gen platforms — PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer that provides the pitch for this clash of heroes and villains, which you can view yourself below.
For those looking to support the game a bit beyond it’s $39.99 standard price, there is a King City edition that bundles in supporter pack content, including a digital artbook and alternate hero skins. Both versions will be discounted by 10% during the pre-order period leading up to the game’s launch. If you want to get a taste of what Capes has to offer before committing to the campaign against The Company, you can download a demo via Steam now. Currently, this demo is not available on other platforms.
We’ll be watching to see how Capes fares in the wake of the excellent but sorely overlooked Marvel’s Midnight Suns, another tactical turn-based superhero game that closed out 2022.
Coming into this year, there were two new IPs I was really looking forward to – this & Broken Roads. Unfortunately, BR was disappointing (per reviews). Really hope Capes is good – the more I see it, the more I’m interested (of course, I could’ve said the same about BR before its release). 🤞🏽
